Communication follows a sequence: Exposure → Information → Persuasion → Behavioural change. Communication exposes facts and opinions before communicators; this leads to the travel of information to them; information persuades the communicators to form certain views and adopt certain attitudes, which leads to a change in their behaviour.

Non-verbal communication includes facial expressions, gestures, posture, and eye contact. The study of body language and physical gestures is called Kinesics.

Grapevine communication is informal communication that spreads through an organization without any official channel. A barrier to communication is any obstruction — language, noise, cultural difference, or emotional distortion — that prevents a message from being understood correctly.
